Funerals & Memorial Services

Funerals

It is our privilege to accompany loved ones through the process of saying goodbye well, and entrusting a person home to God.

Funerals can take place either in St Giles' or at a Crematorium/Cemetery Chapel.

Practical arrangements are made by the undertaker who will manage all fees. Services are arranged in consultation with the Rector. St Giles’ and our local funeral directors work together to help you.

You may wish for the funeral to be conducted in the context of the Eucharist, or to be a service of hymns, readings and prayers.

Families should be aware that it takes an hour to get to the nearest crematorium. We can advise you on the different arrangements you can make when a church service is preceded or followed by a private committal at the crematorium.

Music is arranged by the Director of Music. There is a professional choir of four voices.

We are happy for receptions after the service to be held at the back of the church.

Memorial Services

Generally a memorial service takes place several weeks after the funeral. Sometimes a memorial service is referred to as a service of thanksgiving. Usually the deceased had a connection either with the church or this part of London.

The Rector and Director of Music are involved in the planning of the service.

All Souls

Remembering in November each year

Each year on the first Sunday afternoon in November, 4.00-5.00pm we hold a Requiem Mass for All Souls. If you have been part of a funeral or memorial service at St Giles’ at any time, you are most warmly invited back for this service.

We name before God the names of our loved ones who have died, light candles in their memory, and entrust them home to God.

As we come to Holy Communion or for a blessing (all are welcome) during this service, we are as close to the Banquet of Heaven as it is possible to be in this life.
